PC World has a thorough Surface 3 review using MobileMark 2014 benchmark for battery life measurement. The Surface 3 battery life came in at 492 minutes (8 Hours). The article posted a battery life comparison chart with the Surface 3 against the Surface Pro 3, Asus Zenbook UX305, and the Dell XPS13. The Asus Zenbook UX305 was the winner coming in at 638 minutes (10.6 hours). Judging from the review, the Surface 3 is much nicer Tablet in terms of battery life and performance from its predecessors. Microsoft seems to position the Surface 3 as premium low end device.
