Test Setup

Follow these steps to run a test with MobileMark 2007:
  1. Review the BAPCo MobileMark 2007 White Paper
    • The MobileMark 2007 White Paper, available at www.bapco.com, contains recommendations for avoiding test failures and producing more consistent and repeatable results.
    • The white paper also contains important instructions that must be followed in order to publish MobileMark 2007 results.

  2. Ensure the system's power settings are properly configured to run MobileMark 2007
    • Select the power scheme you wish to test: Control Panel > Power Options > Power Schemes.
    • Disable standby: Control Panel > Power Options > Power Schemes > System standby; under "Plugged in", choose "Never"; under "Running on batteries", choose "Never".
    • Turn off low battery actions: Control Panel > Power Options > Alarms, uncheck "Activate low battery alarm..." and "Activate critical battery alarm..."
    • Disable hibernation: Control Panel > Power Options > Hibernate; uncheck "Enable hibernation".
    • Close/stop any unnecessary programs, utilities, or services.

  3. Run MobileMark 2007
    • Double-click the MobileMark 2007 icon on the desktop.
    • -OR- Launch it from the Start menu: Start > All Programs > BAPCo > MobileMark 2007.

  4. Choose a benchmark workload and name your test
    • Click the name of the workload you wish to run.
    • Type a name for the test in the Project Name box. A date/time stamp will be added to this name to create a unique identifier for this test run. This name will be used to create a folder in <Program Files>\BAPCo\MobileMark 2007\bin\Results which will contain results and log files related to this test.
    • Click Next when you are ready to continue.

  5. Verify that your system is ready to be tested
    • If your system battery is not already fully charged, this is a good place to leave a notebook while its battery is recharging. MobileMark 2007 will update battery information as it recharges.
    • If you see a green traffic light, your battery is fully charged and everything checks out OK. Click Next to continue.
    • If you see a yellow traffic light, read the warnings that appear and address them if you wish. Click Repeat Self-Check to see if the warnings have been resolved or Next to ignore the warnings.
    • If you see a red traffic light, you must resolve the listed issues before you can run the test. Resolve them and click Repeat Self-Check.
    • Click Next when you are ready and able to continue.

  6. Wait for the benchmark to prepare the test
    • The benchmark will take a minute or so to prepare the test run.

  7. Unplug the system to begin testing
    • After the test has been prepared, you will be prompted to unplug the system to begin testing.
    • Simply unplug the notebook and the benchmark will automatically start the workload module you requested.
    • The test will continue until the battery is fully drained and the notebook powers down.
    • Important: Do not touch the keyboard or pointing device or connect/disconnect peripherals during testing or you risk causing a test failure.
    • If the test is inactive for several minutes and there is no pause countdown on the screen, the test has probably failed. If you know what caused the failure (accidental keystroke, program running in the background), restart the system and then start another test. See Technical Support for help diagnosing test failures.

  8. After the notebook powers down, plug it in and power it up
    • Important: Because MobileMark 2007 runs the notebook until the battery is completely dead, Windows may need to check the file system when the system restarts. Do not skip this check, otherwise the hard drive can become corrupted.
    • MobileMark 2007 will automatically run, analyze the test results, and display the results (see Test Results).
